The Hokies have seen success in the Big East (1991-2003) and the ACC (2004 – Present). This list ranks the top 5 Virginia Tech teams of all-time.
5. 1995 10-2 (Sugar Bowl – W)
Coming in at #5 we have the 1995 team. The Hokies were led by Jim Druckenmiller and Dwayne Thomas. Virginia Tech defeated Texas in the Sugar Bowl and finished the year ranked #10 in the country.
4. 2007 11-3 (Orange Bowl – L)
Led by Sean Glennon and Branden Ore on offense and Xavier Adibi, Vince Hall, and Brandon Flowers on defense, the 2007 Hokies finished the season 11-3. Tech went on to win the ACC championship before losing to Kansas in the Orange Bowl.
3. 2005 11-2 (Gator Bowl- W)
Fans in Blacksburg were able to watch the younger Vick suit up for the Hokies this season. Marcus Vick finished the year with 2393 passing yards as he led the offensive attack. On defense, Vince Hall had 112 tackles and James Anderson added 82 tackles. The Hokies lost a heartbreaker to Florida State in the ACC Championship, but came back to beat Louisville in the Gator Ball.
2. 2000 11-1 (Gator Bowl – W)
At #2 we have the 2000 team. Lee Suggs scored 28 touchdowns while Michael Vick added 16. The one loss came at Miami in week 9; however the Hokies were able to finish the season strong as they won out and beat Clemson in the Gator Bowl. They finished the season ranked #6 in the final AP Poll.
1. 1999 11-1 (Sugar Bowl – L)
The top spot belongs to the 1999 Hokies. Led by Michael Vick and Shyrone Smith the Hokies dominated opponents. They averaged 40.3 points per game while only allowing 13.5 points per game. The season ended in an heartbreaking 46-29 loss to Florida State in the Sugar Bowl.
